MONTESSORI
An Education for peace
A child is born into this world unknown to himself. He then embarks in a life-long quest of self-realization.
Montessori education is more than just any school where children learn to read and write. It is a school of life, which empowers the child into mindfulness and hones the life skills of adaptation, collaboration, independence, creativity, and self-esteem. These craft within the child a life-long impetus for the betterment of himself and of his environment.
Montessori children grow into peaceful and responsible adults.
Skills for Life
Doctor Montessori dedicated her life to the study of children. Through her scientific observations she meticulously developed an approach of human development that fosters fundamental values and skills.
Life skills are essential to savor one’s journey towards their cosmic task. In a world of rapid and perpetual change, it is one’s ability to adapt, to think creatively, to collaborate, and to act that will determine his capacity to confront any situation arising on his path. It is also the individual’s values of respect and empathy that will craft a more peaceful world.
The key concept empowering the Montessori Approach is The Prepared Environment.
The Prepared Environment
The prepared environment is comprised of the following elements: the prepared adult, the physical environment, and the community.
-
The prepared adult is trained by the Association Montessori International. They are childhood experts who, beyond meticulously preparing the physical environment for the children, will sensibly observe the children to then guide them by sparking their interest and curiosity. The most important attribute of a Montessori guide is the love and respect she holds for each child's total being.
-
The physical environment is prepared to exhibit warmth, beauty, and order. Montessori materials are carefully designed tools to stimulate the child into logical thought and discovery. The materials are displayed and accessible by the children such that they are free to choose their work independently.
-
The community is an essential element of the Montessori environment. It grows organically into a harmonious community of children of different ages within the same plane of development, learning to interact and learn from one another within a collaborative spirit, freed from competition.
